Identificazione di una Donna

It was in Brussels about twenty years ago that I saw a woman dance a solo piece based on Paganini’s Caprices. It was, I think, one her last creations. Her dancing remained impressed in my memory and my being, and inspired me so many years later to go off in search of this choreographer and her work. I wanted to do a new production of her piece and with it offer a panoramic history of dance.
When we met, she was stirred anew by the desire to be back on the stage, but after three days in the studio she abandoned for good the idea of working on the project, thus closing one door and at the same time opening another onto a series of questions.
As my original idea fell through, I found myself face to face with “the white page” and all the anxieties that come with it. It was then that I decided to tell the story of my search to identify this woman Naturally, questions about the artist’s isolation, lack of inspiration, and fear of creating rose to the surface.
In the films of Michelangelo Antonioni, sometimes the disappearance of a character is at once salutary and disturbing. And it was from this “avventura” that I drew the inspiration to create this piece.
What resulted was an autobiographic piece about “someone else.”
