LES REPTILES DE LUPANAR
Borges disliked the Argentinean tango. He described it in these terms: “the reptiles of brothel”.
However, by the end of Borge’s life, this expression made another sense if one reads it through the fantastic mythology of his writings. Then, the brothel’s reptiles were obviously Los Portenhos who, drunk, visited the disreputable houses in Buenos Aires, seeking the memory of a lost paradise on the breasts of their mistresses. They were also these animals that moved, sometimes slowly, sometimes fast, through the gutters and the mirrors of the prostitutes. They suspended their desire the more they could, then moved again with an irrepressible determination.
Through tango and contemporary dance, the piece shows these states of suspension in which desire still remains.
Dancers interlace their legs.
Along with the musicians, they tell us the story of the reptiles of Borges.
