ANTIGONE
EMMA – A PROJECT BY IDA DE VOS
One female dancer asked four choreographers, Stephen Dreher, Joanne Leighton, Johanne Saunier and Claudio Bernardo to create a solo with and for her. She has already worked for each of these choreographers. She took up the challenge to defend and confront the similarities, differences and, most of all, the uniqueness of their artistic views. Women portraits from the painting, cinema or literature world inspired each solo.
As a starting point, Claudio Bernardo chose the myth of Antigona. He created a solo on the Chaconne of Bach. Through dance, Ida de Vos wonderfully expresses the rage, the strength and the sensitivity of this character who struggles against the hypocrisy of the authority to bury her brother.
