In Brazil, when talking about popular songs, the name of Maria Bethania comes first to mind. This great singer has been the spiritual daughter of Brazilian music; she got to sing the songs of the finest Brazilians as well as international composers.
Recently, Maria Bethania recorded the preface of one of the most fascinating books of Brazilian literature “l’heure de l’étoile” (“the time of the star”). Both the book and Maria Bethania made me think of creating a solo for the dancer Daniela Lucà. It is a ten minutes solo, on the words of the writer Clarice Lispector, but still very abstract. I joined the dance of Daniela Lucà with the voice of Maria Bethania.
